Day One: Launch!

Make Your Day was officially launched at 6pm on Friday the 16th of October. The launch was part of Adore Skunk Wiz, a show at Old Parliament House organized by Andrew Zukoski and featuring works by Andrew, CameronĀ  Chamberlain, Charles White, Travis Heinrich, and myself.

One Gross Amount of Planes

This is what 144 paper aeroplanes looks like. I distributed the planes, carrying the invitation to “have some fun”, about the courtyard that the show took place in. As with most things, it took me a lot longer to fold 144 planes than it took for them to be pretty much destroyed.

In retrospect, the crowd that Old Parliament House attracts on a Friday night is not really the appropriate crowd for paper aeroplane shenanigans; but some people had some fun with it.

Having Some Fun

This guy absolutely made my night – he and his friends walked in, sat down, and had an epic paper plane battle.

Exactly the result I was after.

After the sun went down, I fired up the overhead projector to begin the first of my Positive Propaganda displays.

I was very pleased with how the projections worked out. I would have like to have been able to project onto the walls of the courtyard, however the doors and windows distorted the projections to the point where they were impossible to read, so I ended up using the wall of the adjacent corridor. The smooth surface worked perfectly, and the projections were still visible from the courtyard and dining area.

Ceiling Projection

The overhead projector is excellent to work with – much less complicated than the data projector, and for the simple effect I was after it was perfect. I was able to experiment with the angle and size of the projections a little; and I also tried using coloured cellophane as part of the projection. I really like the effect this gave – it made the projections much more interesting and allowed me to play around with an added compositional element.

Overall, I felt that it was a good night and a very successful launch for Make Your Day. More photos of the night are avalible on the Make Your Day Flickr Photostream
Cheers,

Katie
